Born in Evergreen Park, Illinois, in 1939, Wayne Huizenga’s early life revolved around education. He attended Calvin College, a private institution in Grand Rapids, Michigan, and graduated in 1962 with a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration earns. After that, Huizenga moved to Florida, where he earned an executive MBA from the University of Pittsburgh. He started his career at the Aluminum Company of America (ALCOA), but quickly left the corporation to take a higher-paying post at the waste disposal company, Block Brothers.

In less than a decade, he turned WMI into the largest environmental services company in the world and made himself a fortune in the process.

To date, Wayne Huizenga has contributed more than $200,000,000 to the construction of more than 20 public venues around the world. The largest of these is Comerica Park, the home stadium for the Detroit Tigers.
